The Zumbro Hotel

The Zumbro was built in 1911-1912 on the corner of what is now 1st Ave SW and 1st St SW. Like many Rochester hotels, it was designed to cater to Mayo Clinic patients, having four dozen patient rooms and an operating room. Despite being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, the Zumbro was torn down the next year so a glass and concrete Mariott could be built on its site.
